Betheliesalot:
Lol, mental picture 😂
I guess the same goes for beards
one argument against beards i've heard multiple times, both from individual jws and from the platform is roughly:.
'timothy got circumcised so as not to stumble others!
shouldn't you be thankful you don't have to do that?

One argument against beards I've heard multiple times, both from individual JWs and from the platform is roughly:
'Timothy got circumcised so as not to stumble others! Shouldn't you be thankful you don't have to do that? Shaving is much easier!'
Putting aside the fact that it has nothing to do with something being 'easy' or 'difficult', and everything to do with the principles involved, let's take them up on this comparison:
Timothy was circumcised specifically to not offend the non-Christians he was going to be preaching to. There is no place in the civilized world that I am aware of that looks down on well groomed beards, so therefore there would be no reason to shave for the sake of preaching to others, seeing as many respectable people from all over the world have them: doctors, lawyers, police officers, fathers, grandfathers, clergy, etc. This alone renders the comparison irrelevant.
But couldn't the same principle apply to the congregation, who are offended by beards? Let's see the very different way circumcision was viewed when imposed by FELLOW Christians, in Galatians:
not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:and that because of the false brethren privily brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: to whom we gave place in the way of subjection, no, not for an hour . . .
All those who want to make a good impression in the flesh are the ones who try to compel you to get circumcised, doing so only to avoid being persecuted . . .
For neither is circumcision anything nor is uncircumcision
The phrase "stumbled" is all too often misunderstood by JWs to mean 'offended', but it actually refers to being stumbled away from Christ. If the offendee still claims to be a Christian, then they're just attempting to impose their own conscience on others, a conscience which itself has already been imposed on by a high-control group.
a thrift store down the street is run by members of a small, local christian congregation.
evangelical but not sure what religion they are affiliated with.
they have set up the store as a non-profit and have a specific use for the funds they acquire.
It's 'wrong' because it's apart from 'mother' and has nothing to do with furthering the organization's interests. They would be giving 'admonition' and then if they didn't change course would be disfellowshipped for apostasy.
hi does anyone have any bad ministry experiences to share or really funny ones?.
some of mine were:.
- having water sprayed on us with a hose.
Homeowner siced two dogs on us, which chased us to end of the driveway.
Woman wearing very loose/low top with slightly visible areola, young brother talking with her stayed there a looong time, kept conversation going.
Householder told pioneer she had a nice rack.
Man who was a truther tried to 'witness' to us about aliens.
Woman talked to us like we were possessed and said "Begone!"
Mentally disabled (but otherwise somewhat normal looking) woman answers the door, and I talk for a little while only gradually realizing that the conversation is basically one way, then her caretaker comes to get her.

what's cooler than your copy of "purple rain" on vinyl?
try owning one of prince's personal copies on vinyl!!
It is probably the silver sword, just in one of those personalized zipper covers with his name or something engraved. Whatever it says, for some reason they blocked it out. Looking closely though, it doesn't appear to say "Prince Nelson", so if it isn't his name I don't know what it says.

since the org discovered the internet i saw that one day they would release an online bible study so the people didn't need the witnesses to be indoctrinated by the gb.
i have to admit that i didn't think they would do it now, without a great cerimony or announcement, but, hey, it's on!.
It has the disclaimer that 'this does not replace a home Bible study'
has anybody seen the new online bible study yet, just posted yesterday i believe?
it's the first thing you see now when going to the home page.
the online bible study lessons on jw.org are free, have no obligation, and are easy to use.
The Mormons seem to handle it okay. They have young adults manning their phones and chat site.
I have family background with LDS as well, so I tried 'reverse witnessing' if you will a couple of times with Mormon missionaries online. They're very sensitive to that though. Similar to JWs they only stick to a script and stock answers and when I veered from that even subtly they quickly ended the conversation.

The Online Bible Study Lessons on jw.org are free, have no obligation, and are easy to use. Learn at your own pace in the privacy of your own home. You won’t need to register or provide personal information.
However they haven't gone all digital yet. There's the disclaimer:
These lessons do not replace our personal Bible study program.
This digital "study" is not study at all. It has three brief units, and a lot of it is grade school level interactive visuals to keep you stimulated.
can anyone remember or point me to a quote in either the watchtower or awake where they spoke adversely about some of the violent scenes in the original blade runner film.
.
thanks.
My first R movie was Passion of the Christ, and that was shortly before I fully woke up. The rating system is often inconsistent. You'll have an otherwise clean movie rated R for a few F words or something, and then there's some PG-13 films I've seen that should've been rated R for the graphic violence, gun deaths etc. I don't mind R rated films that are justified in their content, but it seems that many are 'aiming' for an R and it comes off as shoehorned and cringy like middle school mentality, 'look at me, I'm rated R, ooooh'
hi, i have excellent news.
i posted here before that the book i wrote was published.
four months passed by since.
